Dermal fillers have revolutionised the field of aesthetic medicine, offering a non-surgical solution to enhance and rejuvenate your natural beauty. These injectable treatments have gained immense popularity for their ability to smooth wrinkles, restore lost volume, and sculpt the face, all while providing natural-looking results.

In Bella Aesthetic Clinic I offer a range of treatments designed to address various concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, and volume loss. Rest assured, we use only the most top-quality products to achieve natural-looking results.

What are
Dermal Filler
Treatments?

Dermal fillers, often referred to as "liquid facelifts," are a non-surgical cosmetic solution aimed at enhancing and rejuvenating your skin's appearance, particularly in the facial region.

Dermal fillers treatments are made of various safe and biocompatible substances, such as hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxylapatite, and are expertly administered to address a wide variety of aesthetic concerns.

In Bella Aesthetic Clinic I use cross-linked hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. In its natural state, hyaluronic acid is relatively short-lived in the skin, as it can be quickly broken down by the body. However, cross-linking involves chemically bonding the hyaluronic acid molecules, creating a more stable and longer-lasting product. This cross-linking process enhances the durability of the dermal filler, allowing it to remain in the skin for an extended period. Once injected, cross-linked hyaluronic acid attracts and holds water, providing immediate volume and hydration to the treated area. Over time, the cross-linked filler is gradually broken down by the body, but its longevity allows for extended results, typically lasting several months to a year or even longer, depending on the specific product used. This extended duration is one of the advantages of cross-linked hyaluronic acid fillers, making them a popular choice for individuals seeking enduring and natural-looking improvements in facial volume and contour.

The core purpose of dermal fillers is to restore lost volume, diminish the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles, and revive the youthful contours of your face, providing natural-looking results.

How Do
Dermal Filler Treatments Work?

Dermal fillers work through several mechanisms to achieve these transformative effects. They primarily combat the signs of aging by replenishing lost volume, as aging skin tends to lose elasticity and fullness due to declining levels of collagen and hyaluronic acid. By injecting dermal fillers beneath the skin's surface, they mitigate the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines while restoring a more youthful and plump look. Additionally, many dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a natural hydrating agent, which attracts and binds water molecules upon injection, resulting in improved skin hydration and a smoother, radiant complexion. These versatile treatments can also be strategically placed to offer structural support and contouring, making them suitable for enhancing various facial features, such as lips, cheeks, and jawlines.

Some fillers, like Sculptra, stimulate collagen production, providing long-lasting rejuvenation by promoting the body's own natural collagen renewal process.

With their ability to provide immediate, yet subtle, results and minimal downtime, dermal fillers have become a preferred choice for individuals looking to revitalise their appearance without undergoing invasive surgical procedures. To embark on your journey towards a more youthful and refreshed you, consult with a qualified aesthetic practitioner who can tailor a dermal filler treatment plan to your specific needs.

How Should
I Prepare Before Treatment?

If you’re planning to come in for a dermal filler treatment, we advise our patients to avoid alcohol, smoking, Ibuprofen and fish oils for at least two days prior to the treatment. This helps minimise bruising and swelling. We believe that a healthy body increases the chance of a successful outcome.

It is important to highlight other blood-thinning medications such as warfarin, DOACs and heparin can also increase the likelihood of side effect.

Some vaccinations can also intensify the side effects of dermal filler treatments. Therefore it is recommended to schedule your dermal filler treatment appointment at least two weeks before and after any vaccination.

In Bella Aesthetic Clinic we offer a consultation to ALL our patients to assist with pre-treatment advice. Contact us today to schedule your appointment.

What Happens During
Dermal Fillers Treatment?

Dermal fillers treatments are administered through a series of injections, and the procedure is typically performed by a trained healthcare professional. The specific steps for administering dermal filler treatments may vary slightly depending on the area being treated and the practitioner's technique. In Bella Aesthetic Clinic the process is as follows:

  1. Consultation: Before the dermal filler treatment, you will have a consultation with a pharmacist prescriber. The primary purpose of your consultation is for you to discuss your goals, concerns, and expectations. During your consultation you will be offered a facial assessment and a medical consultation to determine if the dermal filler treatment is an appropriate treatment for you.

  2. Before Treatment: Drinking plenty of water in the days leading up to your treatment can be beneficial. Proper hydration can improve the quality of your skin and aid in the healing process. Also on the day of your appointment, arrive with a clean face, free from makeup, lotions, or creams in the treatment areas. This ensures a clean and sterile environment for the procedure.

  3. Anaesthesia: we recommend anaesthesia or numbing agents for dermal filler treatments, to minimise any possible discomfort. Please ask for assistance when you book your treatment so she can recommend a topical numbing cream  to be applied before your treatment or use alternative options such as numbing agents, ice packs or equipment to minimise discomfort.

  4. Preparation: Before the dermal filler treatment takes place your aesthetic practitioner will identify the specific areas of your face that need to be treated. The area would be cleansed and/or disinfected and pre-treatment photographs will be taken. Dermal filler treatments are commonly used for cosmetic purposes in areas such as

    • Lips

    • Cheeks

    • Chin

    • Jawline

    • Marionette lines

    • Nasolabial folds

    • Smoker's lines

    • Jowls

    • Deep Lines

    • Nose filler

    • Tear trough

    • and more.

  5. Treatment: Dermal filler treatments are administered using a fine needle or a cannula to inject small amounts of hyaluronic acid directly into the treated area. Multiple injections may be needed in the same treatment area to achieve the desired results. The number of injections and the amount of product used will depend on the individual's needs and the treatment area. As with any other medical treatment it is always desirable to treat with the lowest dose needed to achieve desirable outcome.

  6. After Care: After the injections are complete, your practitioner may apply gentle pressure or use ice to minimise swelling and bruising. Before undertaken your treatment you will be given post-injection care instructions, such as avoiding make-up, strenuous exercise for a day or two and refraining from rubbing or touching or massaging the treated area.

  7. Recovery: Dermal fillers treatments typically have minimal. Most people can resume their normal activities immediately after the procedure. However, it's important to anticipate bruising and swelling can be expected for a few days after treatment.

  8. Results: The effects of dermal filler treatments are immediate but usually it can take up to four weeks to see the full effects. Dermal filler treatments results are temporary and typically last six to 18 months, after which you may need regular treatments to maintain the results.

  9. Follow-Up: Depending on your individual response to dermal filler treatments and the area treated, you may schedule follow-up appointments in clinic to assess the results and determine if any adjustments are needed.

It's essential to choose a qualified and experienced healthcare professional for dermal filler treatments to ensure the procedure is not only safe and effective but the practitioner is also trained to manage any possible complications. In Bella Aesthetic Clinic Sandra will also discuss any potential risks or side effects with you during the consultation and provide personalised recommendations based on your specific goals and needs.

Dermal Fillers Treatment
After Care

After getting dermal filler treatments, it's important to follow some aftercare guidelines to ensure the best results and minimise the risk of side effects. Here are some general aftercare tips to consider:

  1. Avoid Touching or Rubbing: After the procedure, avoid touching or rubbing the treated area for several hours to prevent the migration of product to unintended areas. This can help ensure that the product stays where it's intended.

  2. Stay Upright: For a few hours after the treatment, try to remain upright and avoid lying down. This can help prevent the product from migrating to different areas of the face.

  3. Refrain from Vigorous Exercise: Avoid vigorous exercise and heavy weight lifting for the first 24 hours after the treatment. Exercise can increase blood flow to the face and may potentially increase risk of bruising and even infection.

  4. Avoid Alcohol: It's a good idea to avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before and after your treatment, as it can increase the risk of bruising and swelling.

  5. Use Sun Protection: Protect your skin from direct sunlight and UV exposure for a few days after the treatment. This can help minimise the risk of skin damage and pigmentation changes. Remember SPF is recommended to be used 365 days in the year to protect your skin from sun damage and skin ageing.

  6. Be Gentle with Your Skin: Be gentle when washing your face, and avoid aggressive scrubbing or exfoliation for a few days after the treatment.

  7. Stay Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water can help your body process the dermal filler treatment more effectively.

  8. Avoid Certain Medications and Supplements: Some medications and supplements, such as blood thinners and anti-inflammatory drugs, can increase the risk of bruising.

  9. Follow Up as Advised: Depending on your individual response to dermal filler treatment a follow-up appointment may be recommended to assess the results and determine if any adjustments are needed.

  10. Patience: The full effects of dermal filler treatments may take several days to become apparent, with the maximum benefit typically seen within two to four weeks. Be patient and wait for the full results to manifest.

It's important to remember that dermal filler treatments are a temporary treatment, and the effects will gradually wear off over time. It is always recommended to add filler gradually and avoid large amounts in one sitting. Some individuals will require repeat treatments to maintain the desired results.

If you experience any unusual or severe side effects after dermal filler treatment, such as excessive swelling, excessive bruising, pain, loss of sensation, contact your aesthetic practitioner immediately for evaluation and guidance.

Otherwise, following these aftercare tips can help ensure a safe and successful dermal filler experience.
