What are
Chemical Peel
Treatments?

Chemical peels are non-invasive cosmetic procedures that rejuvenate the skin's appearance by applying a chemical solution to remove damaged or aged outer layers.

These treatments are designed to address various skin concerns, including wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars, sun damage, uneven skin tone, and texture irregularities.

Chemical peels come in different strengths and formulations, such as superficial, medium, and deep peels, depending on the depth of penetration and the specific issues being targeted. During a chemical peel, the solution is applied to the skin and left to work for a specified duration before it is neutralised or naturally removed. As the old, damaged skin peels away, it is replaced with fresher, healthier skin, resulting in a smoother, more radiant complexion.

Chemical peels are versatile and can be tailored to individual needs, making them a popular choice for those seeking non-surgical skin rejuvenation. They are often performed on the face, neck, or hands and provide a wide range of options for enhancing and revitalising the skin's appearance

How Should
I Prepare Before Treatment?

If you’re planning to come in for a chemical peel treatment, we advise our patients to avoid recently tanned skin, smoking, recent cosmetic surgery. Treatment will not be recommended during active acne, eczema, psoriasis or cold sore. It is also recommended to avoid waxing, topical tretionin creams and/ or other aesthetic treatment for up to 2 weeks before and after treatment. This helps minimise skin damage and excessive peeling following the treatment.

It is important to highlight any skin concern needs to be discussed in clinic prior to treatment. Chemical peels are not a suitable treatment for any patient with skin infections, wounds, burns, skin cancer and photosensitivity due to the increased risk of side effects.

Chemical Peels Treatment
After Care

After getting chemical peels treatments, it's important to follow some aftercare guidelines to ensure the best results and minimise the risk of side effects. Here are some general aftercare tips to consider:

  1. Avoid Touching, Picking or Pulling at any loose skin: After the procedure, avoid touching or rubbing the treated area for several hours to prevent irritation or infections.

  2. Refrain from Vigorous Exercise: Avoid vigorous exercise and heavy weight lifting for the first 24 hours after treatment. Avoid strong chlorinated water (swimming or cleaning) for 2 weeks.

  3. Avoid active ingredients: Avoid benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid for 2 days. Do not use any harsh cleanser or further exfoliants, peeling agents, retinoids, retinols, vitamin A products for 5-7 days.

  4. Be Gentle with Your Skin: Be gentle when washing your face, and avoid aggressive scrubbing or exfoliation for a few days after the treatment. Pat to dry skin.

  5. Use moisturiser: Use an intensive moisturiser for at least 7 days.

  6. Avoid Depilation: Avoid electrolysis, depilatory creams, waxing and hair removal for a minimum of 7 days.

  7. Use Sun Protection: Protect your skin from direct sunlight and UV exposure for 2 weeks after the treatment. This can help minimise the risk of skin damage and pigmentation changes. Remember SPF is recommended to be used 365 days in the year to protect your skin from sun damage and skin ageing.

  8. Follow Up as Advised: Depending on your individual response to chemical peels a number of 3-6 sessions may be recommended to assess the results and determine if any adjustments are needed.

  9. Patience: The full effects of chemical peel treatments may take several days to become apparent, with the maximum benefit typically seen within one to two weeks. Be patient and wait for the full results to manifest.

It's important to remember that chemical peel treatments are a progressive treatment, and the effects will gradually build up over time. It is always recommended to use medical grade skincare products for optimal results. Some individuals will require repeat treatments to maintain the desired results.

If you experience any unusual or severe side effects after chemical peel treatment, such as excessive redness, burning, pain, loss of sensation, contact your aesthetic practitioner immediately for evaluation and guidance.

Otherwise, following these aftercare tips can help ensure a safe and successful chemical peel experience.
